Top Ten Tuesday: Series I’ve Been Meaning To Start But Haven’t

Top Ten Tuesday is a meme hosted by The Broke and the Bookish. This week’s topic is all about book series I’ve been meaning to start, but haven’t yet, as well as all my lame excuses why. But mostly it’s this: I don’t feel like reading them yet. The stars are not yet aligned for me to be sucked in into this fandom. So without further ado, here are my would-be fandoms lol.

1. Shades of Magic, Villains, and The Archived by V.E. Schwab

In short, anything by V.E./Victoria Schwab. I’ve been hearing so much hype about her books and that they’re really good. I already went ahead and bought myself a copy of A Darker Shade of Magic but couldn’t seem to crack open and read it just yet.

2. The Nevernight Chronicle by Jay Kristoff

What am I waiting for? For the second book to come out? Am I waiting to finish Obsidio first? Even I don’t really know. But, soon, okay? Soon.

3. The Witchlands by Susan Dennard

I’ve been hearing mixed reviews about this so I think I’m waiting for one of my friends to read this cause I trust their opinions more? Lol. What do you guys think about this series?

4. Magnus Chase and the Gods of Asgard, and The Trials of Apollo by Rick Riordan

I know you guys are just going “What the hell, Saii?” right now. I know, I know. It’s because they said that I have to finish Heroes of Olympus before moving on to these two series, and I haven’t brought myself to finish the series! I haven’t read Blood of Olympus yet. Yes, I know. Let’s all ring the shame bell, shall we?

5. Unwind by Neal Shusterman

I have friends who are fans of his works, and I’ve been meaning to read this (I’ve gotten to read Scythe first). Once again, I don’t know what I’m waiting for.

6. Chaos Walking by Patrick Ness

Same with Unwind, honestly.

7. The Darkest Minds by Alexandra Bracken

Let’s throw in her Passenger series too.

8. Conqueror’s Saga by Kiersten White

This is actually in my immediate TBR since I’ve heard a lot of good reviews about this on bookstagram and from my blogger friends. I’ll probably read this within the next month or so.

9. The Parasol Protectorate by Gail Carriger

Also have to continue reading her Finishing School series while we’re at it.

10. Mistborn by Brandon Sanderson

Let’s throw in the Reckoners series too. A lot of my friends, have been bugging me to read this for so long. I will, I will. Someday haha.

So there we have it! What about you guys? What books have you been meaning to read for a while now?

I have also not read Trials of Apollo, so you’re not alone! The Unwind series (as long as you don’t read the novella Unbound or whatever) is a fabulous discussion of ethnics and morality. I’m a huge fan even though I haven’t finished the series. Shusterman is a true craftsman. Did you like Scythe?

I’m bummed about Trials cause I’ve heard that it’s so funny and I just want to get to that part already but ugh Blood of Olympus!

I really liked Scythe. It’s amazing and the concept is really cool. I posted a review about it here about a month or two ago.

I haven’t read The Darkest Minds or The Chaos Walking series yet either. I have all of the books for TDM so I really have no excuse with that one, haha.
I read Truthwitch about a year ago and honestly really wasn’t a fan. It seemed like Dennard was trying to fit so much into the book that it ended up feeling like nothing really developed fully, if that makes sense. I heard the second book was better but I haven’t read it. 😛
Shades of Magic is the only other series on here that I’ve actually started, although I haven’t read the last book yet. I’ve really liked the first two, but not as much as other readers seem to, haha. Hope you like it when you get to it!

  10. You’ve got some great series here! I love the Unwind books, although I didn’t care much for SCYTHE. I also really like the Mistborn series. I haven’t finished it, but I’m working on it. The Chaos Walking series is one of my faves. I wish Ness would write another series like it.

    Happy TTT!

Oooh I forgot about Patrick Ness! And I think the first maybe half of your list are all books I’ve either only the first of or couldn’t get through yet (truthwitch). A Darker Shade of Magic is great, though! Highly recommend that one 🙂

I just bought a copy of Nevernight. I tried reading it as an ARC, but I had the ebook ARC version and it was too much of a hassle to read it since there are footnotes and in the ARC version that footnotes weren’t at the bottom of the page, they were at the end of the chapter. So flipping back and forth to the end of the chapter and having to find where you left off was way too much work and making me hate the book LOL. Hopefully with the print copy I will actually be able to properly enjoy it.

The Chaos Walking trilogy is so freaking good! Loved it! I loved The Darkest Minds as well, but I stopped at the first book. I really need to continue with the series ASAP! Mistborn was also really awesome and another series I read the first book, but still need to continue with the others.

Yeah that was why I had to buy a physical copy of nevernight before trying to read it. 😊

So excited for all the other series! I hope I love Chaos Walking as much as you did!

  15. I’ve read and loved so many of the books on your list! The Shades of Magic books are stunning, honestly some of my favourite fantasy books ever. I haven’t read Vicious, but I have read the first Archived book and enjoyed it. I love all of Rick Riordan’s books, Apollo is completely hilarious and Magnus Chase is well worth the read as well. The Unwind series is fabulous, a lot of sci-fi/dystopia can feel a bit samey but I thought that series was truly unique, I’ve never read anything else like it. I haven’t read The Darkest Minds either (it was on my list this week too). I’m planning on reading And I Darken this year hopefully. I’ve also heard very mixed things about Truthwitch, which is why I’ve been putting it off for a while.

  17. I hope you enjoy the ADSOM series once you read it! It earned a place on my all time favourite series list, so maybe you’ll love it too 🙂 I also seriously need to read the Mistborn series. I read “The Darkest Minds” and really enjoyed it but found the sequel kind of boring? Everyone else seems to love it though so oh well 🙂

Maybe The Darkest Minds is one of those series that has a lull in the second book and then picks up again at the third? I’m so excited for Shades of Magic I’ll be reading it next week!
